tyr·an·ny/ˈtirənē/
Noun:
Cruel and oppressive government or rule.
A nation under such cruel and oppressive government.
When I think of tyranny, I think of oppressive forms of government that we have seen from time to time around the world. Tyranny is marked by cruelty and oppressive government rule. Cruel AND oppressive. All governments by their nature are oppressive in that the force a certain amount of compliance to customs and societal norms within their borders. Whether or not the inhabitants find it too oppressive is always subjective. Cruelty is another thing entirely. Cruelty AND oppression are key notes of governments such as those marked by leaders like Idi Amin, Saddam Hussien, and Mohammar Ghadaffi (forgive the spelling I really don't care enough about those people to bother looking up how they'd like to have history remember exactly how they constructed their names).
Eating your subjects - well, that is cruel indeed. Sending your sons out to collect free range women and raping and killing them - yup I'd find that cruel too. Killing your political opponents and any who disagree with you - cruel and oppressive indeed (mostly oppressive since you could make a cold logical argument that elimination of opponents is good for your ruling caste if you get rid of them "humanely" but I won't bother here to split that hair).
Forcing people to pay taxes is hardly cruel or oppressive. Forcing people to take care of themselves with regard to emergency medical conditions, well I don't really see that as cruel or oppressive (but we have seen people define President Obama's health care insurance requirement in that way, but I personally don't - those same people usually also find regulations stopping them from pouring used oil in waterways, and limits on how many fish they can pull out of a lake and the like oppressive) . Recently ...
Recently we have seen common sense come to our judicial system with the federal court ruling that a California court can NOT ban two men or two women from getting married. This makes as much sense as striking down Jim Crow laws and recognizing that women also have a right to vote. This ruling recognizes individual rights of gay Americans and strikes down bigoted attempts - no matter how loudly and emotionally argued - to treat gay Americans as somewhat less than a "true and real" American. This can only make our country stronger.
Not so according to bipedal-stack-of-pig-shit Bill O'Reilly of Fox News. During a discussion held recently on his serial propaganda "opinion" program with analysts Lis Wiehl and Kimberly Guilfoyle, O'Reilly clearly indicated he did not think a judge had the right to decide such matters. Really. Suppurating-pustule-of-a-hemorrhoid Bill O'Reilly doesn't think judges should decide who has rights to marry, which of course begs the question what does gooey-pile-of-hooker-vomit Bill O'Reilly think that judges should do, but that's best taken up in other articles. He clearly did not think a judge had a right to decide this issue, and if he did he was an "activist judge". You know that phrase - that's the one conservatives use whenever a non-rightwing judge delivers a decision they don't like. In his trademark I'll-threaten-and-bully-you-if-I-want style, corn-studded-squishy-crap-log-with-a-wattle Bill decide to turn the show into a shouting match (conservatives love that, they use it whenever they think they can make their liberal opponent back down). As quoted from Huffington Post:
O'Reilly and Wiehl then got into a shouting match after Wiehl said that the right to marry was one regulated by the states and not written into the Constitution. O'Reilly said that, if this was the case, then courts should have no place in deciding the constitutionality of any marriage law. Wiehl said that courts had to decide whether rights that had been "bestowed" could be constitutionally taken away. This really got O'Reilly mad, and he slammed his hand on the table.
"You can't do that," he said. "That's tyranny!"
Ah, yes, tyranny. It is tyranny when courts decide to allow two Americans who love each other to be married and enjoy the EXACT SAME RIGHTS THAT ALL AMERICANS ENJOY, because one of them happens to be, in projectile-vomit-inducing-at-the-thought-of-fucking-him Bill O'Reilly's opinion, the "wrong" gender. Tyranny. THIS is TYRANNY to this Fox News "pundit" who currently enjoys this same right, as well as the right to call people names on his show at will. Hey, it's your right Bill (mine too if you didn't notice). It also seems a FEDERAL COURT also knows that American adults, regardless of sexual orientation, have a RIGHT to marry with everything that (sometimes poorly considered) decision entails.
There's really only one thing to say to "FUCK IT DO IT LIVE... look, I'll write it and we'll do it live! Fucking thing SUCKS!" (Google that one for extra points) Bill O and people who think like Bill. (Oh, Allen West, this includes you too - don't want YOU to feel left out.)
FUCK YOU.
Congrats LGBT community! Please don't judge all us older white guys by fascist-loving-lying-piles-of-human-waste Bill O'Reilly. Most of us can tell what's wrong when we see it and you've all been wronged for a very long time. This is one decision closer. Fascists like Mr. Pig Shit will fight back. But soon it will be over.
