Filthy Liberals

The latest dumbass shit from some of my friends who have suddenly "discovered" my political leanings needs to be addressed. Why? Because they're not the only people I hear this from - it's far too common these days. Here's the way it goes, more or less.

Both parties are the same so why should I care?

This is often followed by a strangely proud proclamation, "that's why I don't vote."

In my experience, both statements are lies to some extent, and the first one is often more than a lie but a deliberate misrepresentation of what they really think. Why do I think this? Because comments made by the same individuals in ALMOST every case indicate they are strongly conservative in many respects. So why don't they just come out and state their allegiance to the conservative Republican party? Shame and or cowardice.

No one can support the Republican extremist regressive party without showing a deep antipathy and even loathing for truth and justice (this used to be followed by "and the American Way" by Superman but he, in his super-sensibility, has realized the USA is no longer the country of "truth and justice"). Therefore, my theory goes, when asked in public those friends of mine who have those leanings just won't say so and while they won't insult Democrats or liberals in front of me they WILL attempt this pseudo-intellectual "observation" of theirs that they may think is somehow deep and profound. In truth it is not deep, it's not profound, and it's not true.

Just as Ghandi and Charles Manson both humans, both male, both eat lunch, use the toilet, and wear clothes, they are "not the same". One would not toss a coin to see which one to pick up by the side of the highway if they were hitchhiking in the rain. They are NOT the same, even if they have some of the same qualities. Yes, Democrats have corrupt members in the party. Yes, they have inept members. Yes, they make mistakes. People never consider these things when they hear bad things about their favorite football team. Gee, one of the players just got arrested for beating the crap out of his girlfriend. See, ALL those teams are the same! How can I, being such a smart person, possibly choose a side?? Bullshit. Bullshit and cowardice. I have even had one friend, when I defended Democrats and liberals, accuse me of "picking sides". I responded "Damn right I pick sides, and this is why." and then I explained it. So, that's a bad thing? It's somehow a failing to pick sides? Where would the USA be if we hadn't "picked sides" in WWI and WWII? I think you know that.

Damn right I pick sides. You're a fucking idiot if you think that is some kind of accusation that carries any weight, aside from trying to rationalize your pathetic inability to recognize right from wrong, good from evil.

One party supports women's rights, limits on child labor, education for everyone, minimum wage, workplace safety, 40 hour work week, and more. Are you actually going to stand there and say you can't figure out if that is good or bad?

One party works AGAINST the rights of women, the poor, children, and the disadvantaged members of society. Are you actually going to tell me that's NOT evil? What the fuck is wrong with you people?

To my friends and anyone who wants to play this asinine game, I'm telling you right now, PICK a fucking side. If you like the evil fuckers on the Republican side at least be man enough to admit it. If you don't figure out which way to throw your lot and vote accordingly. There IS a difference in the political parties. To pretend otherwise makes you an idiot.
